Investigators examining the mysterious death of football star Diogo Jota have uncovered a chilling new detail: streetlights near the site of his fatal crash reportedly flickered exactly three times just moments before the tire blowout that led to the collision — a phenomenon police now say eerily mirrors a deadly accident at the same location five years ago.
According to a preliminary infrastructure report obtained by Correio de Lisboa, nearby surveillance footage and traffic control logs confirmed that a cluster of streetlights along the A-52 highway dimmed and flashed three times at precisely 12:57 AM — less than 60 seconds before Jota’s car veered off the road.
While such anomalies might typically be dismissed as electrical glitches, authorities now believe the incident may be more significant — especially after comparing it to an unsolved fatal crash in 2020, where a motorcyclist died under nearly identical circumstances at the very same curve.
In that case, witnesses at the time also reported “bizarre” streetlight behavior just before the vehicle lost control.
“This is no longer just a routine investigation,” said an officer close to the case. “We are now looking into whether a pattern or even a fault in the road’s infrastructure may have played a role in multiple fatalities — including Mr. Jota’s.”
What’s raising even more concern is that Jota’s tire burst has not yet been conclusively linked to road debris or tire wear. Instead, engineers are now studying whether sudden voltage surges or electromagnetic interference from nearby power sources could have triggered a rapid loss of vehicle control.
Family members, already shaken by the growing list of unanswered questions — including a cryptic diary entry, a mysterious bank account, and a haunting final voice message — were informed of the findings late Tuesday.
Public reaction has been swift, with many questioning whether the original conclusion of driver error was premature — or whether something more systemic, or even deliberate, is at play.
As the investigation takes this eerie turn, one thing is becoming clear: the deeper authorities dig into the final minutes of Diogo Jota’s life, the more the line between coincidence and something far more disturbing begins to blur.
