Barkley has donated his entire $3.1 million performance bonus and endorsement
earnings to charities and organizations devoted to combating homelessness and
supporting those in need.
The announcement was made Tuesday morning through a statement from Barkley
and the Eagles, revealing that the generous donation will help fund emergency
shelters, youth outreach programs, food services, and long-term housing initiatives
across both Philadelphia and the nation.
“This city embraced me from day one, and I’ve seen firsthand the struggles so
many people face,” Barkley said. “If I can use what I’ve been blessed with to
help someone get back on their feet, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
Barkley’s $3.1 million gift includes his latest bonus from the Eagles as well as
endorsement income from partnerships with brands like Nike, Dunkin’, and
Campbell’s. Major beneficiaries of the donation include Project HOME, Broad Street
Ministry, Covenant House PA, and national efforts such as the U.S. Interagency
Council on Homelessness.
The response from the public and fellow NFL players has been swift and emotional,
with many applauding Barkley’s leadership and compassion. Eagles head coach
Nick Sirianni called the move “a shining example of character,” adding, “Saquon
doesn’t just play for the name on his jersey—he plays for the people around him,
and this proves that.”
