The WNBA has concluded its investigation of alleged racist fan behavior toward Angel Reese during the Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever season opener on May 17.
In a statement posted on the WNBA Communications X/Twitter account, the league announced that they have “not substantiated” the allegations of Indiana fans displaying racist behavior toward Reese.
The WNBA said they gathered the information from “relevant fans,” arena and team staffers, audio and video review in their investigation. The league added that it remains “committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.”
Last week, the Associated Press was informed by a source that the WNBA was looking into “racial comments directed” at Angel Reese. The league said in a statement that it “strongly condemns racism, hate, and discrimination” as it looked into the allegations.
Angel Reese and Indiana star Caitlin Clark have a well-documented rivalry that dates back to the 2023 women’s basketball national championship game. Reese taunted Clark by using John Cena’s “You can’t see me” gesture in the waning seconds of LSU’s blowout win over the Iowa Hawkeyes; Clark had performed the gesture earlier in the tournament.
Reese and Clark had a memorable interaction in the first quarter of the May 17 game. The latter fouled the Chicago star to prevent an easy two-point basket. Reese went over to confront Clark, who was issued a flagrant foul.

The Sky are 0-3 heading into Tuesday night’s matchup with the Phoenix Mercury, but Reese has done her part to keep the Sky in games. She’s averaging 9.0 points, 13.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest over Chicago’s first three contests.
