Sandra Smith, a veteran reporter at Fox Business Network, has built a career as one of the leading voices in financial news. Having grown up in Chicago’s financial district, Sandra was immersed in a world where discussions about stocks, commissions, and investments were commonplace. Her journey from trader to one of the most recognized faces at Fox Business Network has been both rewarding and surprising. Sandra, whose deep roots in finance made her an ideal candidate for Bloomberg Television in the early stages of her career, joined Fox Business Network in October 2007. From the trading floor to a role in front of the camera, Sandra’s rise to prominence was a result of both hard work and a natural talent for financial reporting.

But while her career in finance reporting has been thriving, Sandra’s life has changed dramatically in recent years. After welcoming her daughter, Cora, into the world, Sandra has embarked on a new adventure—motherhood. As a new mom, Sandra has been navigating the challenges of balancing a high-pressure career with the demands of raising a newborn, and she’s doing so with grace and determination.

The Unexpected Evolution: From Trading Floors to TV Screens

Growing up with family members who worked as financial traders, Sandra Smith was destined to have a career in the world of finance. She understood the language of numbers and how they shaped the world’s economy from an early age. Trading reports, investment management, and understanding market fluctuations were second nature to her. However, Sandra had no idea that her future would lead her to the world of TV news.

Her early career began with a deep dive into finance, but as she climbed the ranks, Sandra’s talents as a communicator shone through. Her transition to a reporter at Bloomberg Television was a significant turning point, as it set the stage for her eventual career at Fox Business Network. What Sandra didn’t foresee was the deep personal fulfillment that came with the evolution of her career. While she continued to deliver reports on financial matters, she also found herself making a larger impact by helping her audience understand complex financial topics in a more digestible format.

When she joined Fox Business Network in 2007, Sandra quickly became known for her sharp financial insight and ability to speak directly to the camera. But in 2015, Sandra’s life took a personal turn that would become a transformative chapter in her journey.

Motherhood: A New Chapter of Joy and Challenges

As Sandra’s professional life continued to soar, her personal life took an equally exciting turn when she became a mother. Sandra welcomed her daughter, Cora, into the world with her husband, John Conolly, in early 2020. The joy of motherhood has added a whole new layer to Sandra’s life, one that has forced her to rethink her approach to time management and work-life balance.

“Every time that I walk into Cora’s room and see her face, it’s just like Christmas morning,” Sandra says, clearly overwhelmed with love for her new baby. “I never realized how much personality children can have at such a young age. It’s so fun to watch!”

Despite the emotional joy that comes with raising a newborn, Sandra quickly realized that balancing a career at Fox Business with motherhood required a great deal of organization and planning. As a working mom, she had to figure out a new routine that allowed her to meet the demands of her job while providing her daughter with the care and attention she needed.

Before becoming a mother, Sandra was used to traveling for business with her husband between New York and Chicago. Her life was busy, with constant travel, radio interviews, and live reports. However, post-baby, Sandra’s life took on a new rhythm as she adjusted to the demands of motherhood. “I wake up at 5 AM with the baby, conduct radio interviews, go into hair and makeup, submit the news topic, and report on-air the rest of the day,” she shares. “But by the end of the day, when I walk in my house, mommy-mode kicks back in.”

Finding Balance in the Chaos: Google Calendar and “Me Time”

Sandra, known for her meticulous organization and efficiency, credits Google Calendar as her secret weapon in managing her demanding schedule. “It is really challenging to be a working mom, and it helps if you are able to organize your schedule,” she says. “I rely on it to stay on track. I share the calendar with John, and together, we make sure we’re on top of everything.”

Being a mother has made Sandra more intentional with her time, and she has embraced a strategy of “me time” to stay centered. While many might assume that her hectic schedule leaves no room for personal time, Sandra has found ways to incorporate small moments of self-care into her day. One of her favorite rituals is her midnight pop-ups—those rare moments when she finds time for herself after her family has gone to sleep.

“The middle of the night is me time,” Sandra explains. “After we’ve all gone to bed, I sometimes pop up for an hour or two just to do something for me—like clean the kitchen or read a book—and then go back to bed.” This self-care routine may seem small, but it has been an important way for Sandra to recharge and maintain a sense of personal space while balancing her roles as a mother and career woman.

Teamwork and Support from Her Husband

Sandra’s ability to thrive in both her professional and personal lives is largely due to the unwavering support she receives from her husband, John Conolly. The two married in 2010 after a long-distance relationship, and their bond has only grown stronger since then. John has proven to be an exceptional partner in both their personal lives and their parenting journey.

“John is such a support to me and a true team player,” Sandra says with admiration. “He has incredible patience and calmly walks our daughter up and down the hall when she’s fussy. Fatherhood has really made his qualities shine.”

John’s support has been integral to Sandra’s ability to manage her demanding career while remaining present as a mother. Sandra also emphasizes that while she’s had to make adjustments and compromises along the way, she believes women can excel in both their professional and personal lives. “I think as moms, we have a tendency to be really hard on ourselves, and we have this weird instinct to want to take on everything,” she says. “But, I truly believe we have an amazing ability to multi-task and can successfully manage both personal and professional lives – but you really have to want to do it. And, you have to delegate sometimes and ask for help.”

A Simple Message of Love

While Sandra’s reports are filled with complex financial analysis, the message she wants her daughter to remember is simple and rooted in unconditional love. “I want Cora to always remember the love we have for her,” she says. “It’s instantaneous and unconditional love.”

As Sandra continues to build her career and embrace motherhood, she exemplifies the strength and determination of women who can thrive in both worlds. Her ability to balance the pressures of the financial world with the demands of raising a child is a testament to her resilience and commitment to her family. With the love and support of her husband, Sandra is able to continue pursuing her passions while also nurturing her most important role as a mother. And as she continues to navigate this new chapter of her life, Sandra Smith is showing the world that it’s possible to excel in both career and motherhood.
