Pete Wicks Captures Fans’ Hearts — Calls Grow for Him to Replace Alison Hammond on ‘For the Love of Dogs’

Following the success of Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake, an overwhelming 87% of ED! readers have voiced their support for Pete Wicks to take over as host of ITV’s For the Love of Dogs, replacing Alison Hammond.

Earlier this year, Pete’s heartfelt project aired on satellite channel U and was a major hit among dog lovers. Many fans were quick to draw comparisons between Pete and the late Paul O’Grady, noting the same warmth and deep compassion toward the animals showcased on the show. Now, many are rallying for Pete — already a Dogs’ Trust ambassador — to become the new face of the beloved series

Alison Hammond had been selected to continue hosting For the Love of Dogs after Paul’s passing, but viewers have been divided. While some appreciated Alison’s more relaxed, softer side, many felt she faced an impossible task in stepping into Paul’s shoes — something Alison herself acknowledged.

Ahead of the second series hosted by Alison, ED! conducted a poll asking readers whether Pete should take over. Nearly 1,500 fans responded, with a staggering 87% voting “yes,” praising Pete’s genuine care and saying he reminded them strongly of Paul O’Grady.

Only 13% preferred Alison to remain, citing her warmth and cheerful energy as reasons to keep her at the helm.

Despite the mixed reactions, Alison’s supporters are standing by her. Some fans praised her on Instagram, saying: “Didn’t think it would work with Alison, but she’s kept the spirit alive. Well done!”

While ITV continues with Alison as host for now, the clamor for Pete Wicks’ takeover is growing louder — and it’s clear that, for many fans, Pete has captured the heart of the show.
