Robert Rinder has left fans concerned after revealing he was rushed to hospital for emergency back surgery — a situation that reportedly stemmed from an overloaded work schedule spanning multiple  TV shows. But amid the worry, one thing brought comfort: his close friend and co-star Rylan Clark has been by his side through it all.

The 46-year-old  TV personality, famous for his straight-talking style and legal expertise, has become a familiar face across British screens — from courtroom-style programming to emotional travel series and headline interviews. But behind the scenes, it seems his relentless workload took a toll on his health.

Taking to social media, Rinder shocked fans with a post confirming he had undergone surgery to repair a prolapsed (slipped) disc — a painful spinal condition that can cause debilitating nerve pain.

He wrote:
“Started the day holding politicians to account… finished it having a prolapsed disc in my back repaired and healed. Life can change in a moment. Hold on to joy wherever you find it. Thanks to the brilliant medical team.”

While Rinder didn’t directly comment on the cause, insiders say his back injury may have been aggravated by his relentless TV commitments, appearing on multiple programmes over a short span — with little rest or recovery in between.

Thankfully, throughout the ordeal, Rylan Clark — his co-presenter on Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour — has remained a source of emotional strength. The pair, whose friendship blossomed on and off screen, have become one of British TV’s most beloved duos.

“Rylan has been there every step of the way,” a source close to the presenter revealed. “He’s offered support, checked in constantly, and made sure Rob doesn’t feel alone in any of it. Their bond is something really special.”

Fans immediately flooded social media with messages of sympathy, encouragement, and shared experiences.

@jqedwards tweeted:
“A prolapsed disc is SO painful! I’m very glad you’ve had it repaired and are on the mend. I had one and it was unbearable. Wishing you a smooth recovery.”

@DebbieElse1 added:
“OMG Rob, I’m just glad you’ve had it dealt with. It’s an extremely painful condition. Time to rest, now — let Rylan look after you!”

Another user, @Josieseven, shared:
“I had back surgery years ago — changed my life. Post-op was hard, but day-by-day I got better. You will too. Stay strong.”

The condition, often caused by stress, physical strain, or sudden movement, affects the spine’s cushioning discs — and when surgery is required, recovery can be slow and painful. Rinder is said to be optimistic, but aware he’ll need proper rest and support.

Rylan has not commented directly but was seen liking posts and sending quiet signs of solidarity online. The pair’s growing friendship has touched fans in recent months, particularly after their emotional scenes together in Italy — where both opened up about personal pain, including Rylan’s own struggles with divorce.

Now, it seems, their friendship is just as meaningful off-camera.

Robert’s final message was a hopeful one: “Hold on to joy wherever you find it.” And with Rylan by his side, there’s no doubt that healing — both physical and emotional — is well on its way.
