American Idol’s season 23 winner, Jamal Roberts, has been busy since he last exited the Idol stage. In addition to spending time with his daughters and his debut single “Heal” reaching number one on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart, the Mississippi native is preparing for one of his first concert performances since winning the title.

The 27-year-old singer—who previously worked as a gym teacher in his home state—is set to perform at the Bee More Summer Festival in Atmore, Alabama, according to a June 2 Facebook announcement. The free event will be held on June 14 at Boxcar Willie, located at 207 W. Ridgeley St., and promises to be a day of music and celebration for the community.

“Come on down and experience his incredible talent live, and see one of the nation’s rising stars in our very own town!” the post read.

Atmore’s interim mayor, Shawn Lassiter, also expressed his excitement, telling AL.com: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our community and folks visiting Atmore to come together and enjoy world-class entertainment right here at Boxcar Willie. His performance will undoubtedly be a highlight of the day.”

Fans are equally enthusiastic. “This is awesome!!!!,” one person commented on Facebook. “Can’t wait to see you!!,” another added, while others simply reacted with, “Omg!!!”

The festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Jamal Roberts taking the stage at 4 p.m.

Jamal Roberts Confirms Plans for Jelly Roll Collaboration
As his star continues to rise, Roberts is also preparing for an exciting new chapter in his music career—collaborating with country-rap sensation Jelly Roll.

In a recent interview with Gold Derby, Roberts revealed that plans are already underway. “Yeah, we’re already working on that now, we’re working on some stuff as we speak,” he said. “We’re going to have something coming soon.”

Jelly Roll has been a fan of Roberts since his memorable American Idol performance during the Hawaii round, where Roberts stunned the audience with a powerful cover of Jelly Roll’s hit song “Liar.”

Mentored by both Jelly Roll and guest coach Ashanti during the season, Roberts left a lasting impression. After hearing the Mississippi native speak about his upbringing in Meridian and his mission to inspire hope, Jelly Roll became visibly emotional.

“Man, that wasn’t a performance, you were testifying,” Jelly Roll told Roberts at the time. “I feel the pain in your voice. You know, you can’t teach that. I am your champion in this thing, man. I think you’ve got it. I think you represent a group of misrepresented people. Man, you got it, Jamal.”

Now, with their musical collaboration in motion, fans can look forward to what could be one of Roberts’ most impactful releases yet.
